POWER's engineering is broken into several different activities. The engineering team builds models and heat balances to analyze the performance of existing plants and then applies SCC to that model to measure the improvement in capacity, efficiency and emissions. In addition it builds models for new plants with and without SCC to determine the best fit of technology for varying sets of conditions. The engineering team creates top level flow diagrams and piping and instrumentation drawings to create the SCC design for the physical upgrade system for existing and new plants. Engineering also designs the control system logic. While small projects are handled internally, for larger projects, we use outside firms for detailed engineering. Engineering also models the gas turbine combustion process to optimize the fuel nozzle design and other potential combustion components. To do this it uses computational fluid dynamics to predict temperatures, pressures, flow directions and velocities, and created emissions. |
