Over the last several decades a large number of gas-fired power plants have been built by independent power producers, industries and utilities. Many of these plants were built as cogenerators, with steam being supplied to an industrial host. Conditions have changed and a large number of these plants are no longer economically viable. In some cases the host’s steam requirements have changed. In some the power sales agreements have lapsed or are no longer economically viable. POWER has identified over 100 underperforming gas-fired power plants. There is an opportunity to acquire plants and upgrade them, including retrofitting them with Simplified Combined Cycle technology, renegotiating power sales agreements and making other physical and operating improvements that can make the plants profitable. POWER is pursuing opportunities to acquire underperforming power plants and to upgrade them. |
